Bulk CD Replication
When you need to produce a large number of CDs in a short amount of time, Bulk CD Replication may be the answer for you.
One common misconception is the difference between CD duplication and CD replication. Although both processes result in a copy of the original CD, the equipment, time and cost can be very different.
CD duplication is the process of copying CDs from one CD to another very much like you would do if you were copying a CD in your computer at home. This procedure will typically be used for copying personal information, such as creating an MP3 disc, backing up software or archiving documents. You might even see this process used for smaller distributions, perhaps for a small, start-up business or band distributing their personal product. The drawback is that this becomes very costly as you approach higher numbers of replication.
This process usually takes from ten minutes to an hour, sometimes more, depending on the speed of your computer and CD/DVD burner. Imagine trying to make 500 copies of a CD using your PC! Even if you could afford the time off work, you probably couldn’t afford the frustration! In addition to the time required, the duplicated CD can be useless if there is an interruption in the flow of data and that problem can just be multiplied if you are making a copy of a copy.
There is equipment that you can buy to do ‘mass’ CD duplication, allowing you to burn several CDs at a time, but you still face the same issues that merely copying a CD presents; mainly personal time and expense. You are also left with CDs that have no label, and you face the added price of creating labels for all those CDs.
If you need to create 500 CDs or more, you definitely want to consider bulk CD replication. CD replication is the process of making a press of the original CD onto new CDs. There is no burning or copying involved; CDs are actually created as the process takes place. The result is an exact copy of the original CD.
The machines required during this process are quite expensive and thus are beyond the reach of the everyday user. However, you will find it increasingly cost effective as your need for more CDs increases. Perhaps the best part is that this process is extremely fast compared with CD duplication.
Along with the increased speed using bulk CD replication is the ability to add artwork to the finished products. Instead of using color laser or ink printer, the process is much like silk-screening a t-shirt. This allow for some very impressive artwork and brilliant colors (it’s how the professionals do it!).
In summary, if you need a few CDs for personal or start-up use (and have the time to create them), CD duplication is the choice for you. If you are looking for a more professional image and/or need a large amount of CDS, bulk CD replication is your answer.
